Conservation Legislation Volunteer Corps: Newsletter 2001-4

Dear CLVC Members,

This letter is brief, but important. There were 13 new environmental LSRs introduced this week. Most important, are.

*2001-H-1010-R: Relative to the Land and Community Heritage Authority. Sponsored by Martha Fuller Clark (Prime), David. M. Scanlon, George T. Musler, Beverly A. Hollingworth, Carl R. Johnson, Edward M. Gordon As you recall CLVC Newsletter 2 (Dec. 15), your help is very much needed now and throughout early January to urge Gov, Shaheen to commit $12 million a year to LCHIP. Please visit www.specialplaces.org to learn more about LCHIP and its crucial role in protecting NH's environment. Send your letter today!
  Governor Jeanne Shaheen
State House
107 N. Main St.
Concord, NH 03301

*2001-H-1019-R: Relative to beverage container redemption and recycling. Sponsored by Beth Rodd (Prime) and Peter R. Leishman Efforts to get a 5-cent deposit on bottles failed last year (and in past years) due to a lack of public support. It is absolutely necessary for us to urge our local representatives to vote for a bottle deposit. This one is up to us. Please spread the word and gain support. If we can establish a strong grassroots effort, we can win. Prepare to contact your local representative about the bottle bill!

Other LSRs to keep in mind.

2001-H-0997-R: Authorizing citizen suits to assure enforcement of NH's environmental statutes. Sponsored by Peter R. Leishman, Anthony R. DiFruscia, Martha Fuller Clark, Irene M. Messier Julian is collaborating with the Sierra Club to get this passed. A compromise with DES is close provided that certain safeguards (of the bill) are in place. Your help may be needed later.

2001-H-0963-R: Relative to the authority of the Pease Development Authority to regulate land use. Sponsored by James R. Splaine.

2001-H-0969-R: Relative to the acquisition of land by a town. Sponsored by Robert L. J'Heureux (Prime), Lawrence A. Emerton, Carl R. Johnson, Sheila Roberge

2001-H-0981-R: Permitting towns to adopt binding warrant articles on the proposed use of land. Sponsored by Karen K. Hutchinson.

That's all for this week.

Happy New Year!
