Deering Wildlife Sanctuary Timber Harvest Tour

February 13, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join Phil Brown (NH Audubon’s Director of Land Management), Matt Tarr (Wildlife Specialist, UNH Cooperative Extension), Jeremy Turner (Forester, Meadowsend Timberlands) and Wendy Ward (Soil Conservationist, Natural Resources Conservation Service) for a tour of an active timber harvest on NH Audubon’s second largest property.

This walking tour will demonstrate how carefully planned timber harvests can be designed to improve wildlife habitat and accomplish additional goals. Wildlife experts and foresters will discuss how different types of management can benefit a diverse assortment of wildlife, including many of our familiar bird species, as well as how and why some of these changes are taking place.

Meet at the upper parking area (or lower parking area after another 0.4 mile on right for overflow parking) of the Deering Wildlife Sanctuary on Clement Hill Road at 9 am.

Directions can be found here: http://www.nhaudubon.org/deering-wildlife-sanctuary/

Bring a snack, beverage, snowshoes, and dress for the weather. Back by noon. Co-sponsored with UNH Cooperative Extension.
