Sherie Dowsett Nature Photography Exhibit

May 1 - June 30

free

Sherie_highres-woodpeckerAmherst, NH photographer Sherie Dowsett is exhibiting her nature photography at McLane Center for the months of May and June, 2017.

Born and raised in England, Sherie moved to the US some 20 years ago, and is now at home in rural New Hampshire. Sherie photographs flora and fauna in their natural environment. Her emphasis is on creating an image that it is true to nature. She uses only natural light (no flash) and, in most cases, minimal editing. She is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA) and has received awards from The Nature Conservancy, the Plymouth Center for the Arts, the Photographic Society of America, and NHAA.

“Photography has helped further the deep affection I feel for the natural world around me, and I find the experience humbling. As a trained scientist, I am surprisingly uninterested in dissecting what I see, but find myself embracing scenes and behaviors without question. It is a liberating experience. For me, photography is about being connected to a moment in nature. It’s about feeling the light, the innocence yet wisdom of an animal, the tranquility of the scene. It’s about the elegance of the ordinary. When I create and share an image, it is with the hope that others will experience a connection of their own with the subject and the natural world in general – by identifying with it, we are encouraged to respect and thus protect it.”
