Silk Farm/St. Paul’s School Harvest Tour

December 12, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

no charge

Join Phil Brown (Director of Land Management), Tim Fleury (County Forester, UNH Cooperative Extension), and Swift Corwin (Forester, Saint Paul’s School) for an informative walking tour of both a pre and post-condition timber harvest. Timber harvest is being conducted on St. Paul’s School land adjacent to the Silk Farm Wildlife Sanctuary to diversify wildlife habitat, especially early successional habitats. NH Audubon’s land manager will discuss how different types of management can benefit a diverse assortment of wildlife, including many of our familiar bird species like American woodcock and chestnut-sided warbler. Foresters will show you how and why some of these changes are taking shape on the landscape and discuss the future of the school and sanctuary’s forests.

Meet at the McLane Center trailhead at the Silk Farm Wildlife Sanctuary at 1 pm. Bring a snack, beverage, snowshoes (if conditions permit), and dress for the weather. Back by 4 pm. Co-sponsored with UNH Cooperative Extension.
