Capital Area Chapter of the Audubon Society of New Hampshire

History of the Chapter and ASNH

The Capital Area Chapter was formed in 1982 and held its first meeting on September 16 of that year. Its first officers, elected that night, were:

President - Helen Parker
Vice President - Garry Stewart
Treasurer - Martha Custer
Secretary - Greta Collins

The first committee chairmen, appointed that night, were:

Field Trips - Roslyn Beaudet
Programs - Penny Verville
Hospitality - Millie Elwell
Membership - Greta Collins

The program on that first evening was a slide show on the flora, fauna and scenic views within New Hampshire, presented by Bob Quinn.

The Capital Area Chapter is not the first ASNH chapter to be formed, but it is the largest. Of the Society's 6800+ members, about 1400 are in this chapter. Its assigned area in the south-central portion of the State includes Concord and 22 surrounding towns, including at least one town in each of five of the State's ten counties.
