Rare Bird Alerts

Rare Bird Alerts (RBAs) are available 24 hours a day by phone and e-mail as well as on the Web. To listen to recorded information on New Hampshire's latest RBAs by telephone, call 603-224-9909 and follow the recorded instructions. This service is provided by ASNH.

To view current RBAs on the Web, for New Hampshire and nearby states and Canada, browse the Virtual Birder's site for NH Regional Info. This way, you can of course also save the information to disk and print it if desired, provided your browser supports that function. The information on this site is taken from the RBA transcripts provided by NBHC (see next paragraph) and is updated a couple of times a week, usually on Monday and Friday nights.

You may also subscribe to one or more of the three mailing lists provided by the National Birding Hotline Cooperative (NBHC), offering transcripts of RBA hotlines plus a variety of birding discussions. Through e-mail, users subscribe to a list and then receive all e-mail messages sent to that list. The lists are BIRDEAST, BIRDCNTR, and BIRDWEST for eastern, central, and western North America respectively. For people interested in regularly receiving RBA information, subscription to one or several of these lists is a better option.

The following describes how to subscribe to BIRDEAST. To subscribe to BIRDCNTR or BIRDWEST, just substitute the appropriate list name in place of BIRDEAST. Send an email message to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU and, in the body of the message, enter the following line and nothing else. Make sure, of course, that you replace First_Name and Last_Name with your own first and last names.

SUBSCRIBE BIRDEAST First_Name Last_Name

You don't need to include an e-mail address since the listserv extracts this automatically from your e-mail message; nor is a subject necessary. After sending the subscription request, you will receive a reply that will ask you to confirm the subscription information. You must send the confirmation before you will start receiving messages from the list. You will also receive information on how to UNSUBSCRIBE from the list.
