About the Program:

New Hampshire Audubon, as the state affiliate for the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), is offering professional guidance to schools interested in registering with NWF’s Eco-Schools USA program.

This free program uses school-based teams of students, educators, administrators and community volunteers to implement “green” management of the school grounds, facilities and curriculum.

Beyond increased sustainability and associated cost savings to the school and district, participating schools have reported these benefits:

  • Increased student engagement
  • Improved reading abilities
  • Improved math skills
  • Better understanding of science concepts
  • Improved technology and engineering skills
  • Increased participation in science and nature activities
  • Improved school attendance
  • Increased student/staff physical activity

By working through the Eco-Schools USA program, schools can dramatically increase their sustainability.

“Eco-Action Teams”, comprised of students, teachers and other members of the school community, identify issues they want to work on – like reducing water or energy use -and work through the Eco-Schools Seven Step Framework to address them.

When they have made progress, schools can apply for Eco-Schools Awards to recognize their success.
