April Vacation Camp 2012

April 23-27, 2012
for children ages 6-10
at Massabesic and McLane Audubon Centers

Vacation camp is the perfect way to prepare for a season of outdoor exploration and discovery. Each day is designed to build the skills of budding naturalists through hands-on activities, storytelling, crafts, games, outdoor exploration, and live animal observation. Register for individual days or the entire week. Children should bring lunch and snacks and be prepared to spend the majority of each day outside.

DAILY THEMES:
Monday, April 23rd
Nature Safari
Today we search for tracks and clues of wildlife living around our centers. We will use skulls and animal mounts to discuss the difference between predators and prey. Learn the skills these animals possess that help them find food or avoid becoming food and how this knowledge can aid our discovery of wildlife!

Tuesday, April 24th
Spring Revival
Spring is here! Our sanctuaries are coming back to life with flowers blooming and vernal pools churning with activity. Join us to learn about the reason for the seasonal changes taking place and witness the spectacle up close while out exploring our trails and vernal pools.

Wednesday, April 25th
Native and Natural Ways
Ever thought about how nature recycles? Join us as we discover some of the mysteries of the natural world. Listen to Native American stories that helped explain the natural ways. We make recycled art using natural materials and search the forest for decomposers to find out how nature recycles.

Thursday, April 26th
Who Lives Here?
Our Audubon centers are home to multiple critters. Today we spend time getting up close and personal with our resident birds, reptiles, and amphibians. We then head outside to see what native wildlife we can find in the surrounding woodlands and wetlands.

Friday, April 27th
Earth Day Celebration
We end the week with an Earth Day celebration! This day is filled with activities that remind us  just how important our planet is.  In the afternoon, campers participate in a stewardship project to help foster the importance of taking care of our planet.
