ASNH Current Research: | Nesting Eagles in Bedford, NH in 2001 |
|
JoAnn O'Shaughnessy, an Audubon volunteer who was instrumental in the discovery of the new nest in on the Merrimack River, has taken a number of photographs of this pair and their nest. Several of these pictures are featured on these pages, and more will be included soon. Our thanks to her for allowing ASNH to use her pictures on our web site. What is it like to actually be in a Bald Eagle's nest? See for yourself by visiting the nest of a pair of eagles near Turner's Falls, Massachusetts at www.nu.com/eagles/. For much more information about the biology and conservation of Bald Eagles, as well as many other species of birds of prey, visit the University of Minnesota Raptor Center at http://www.raptor.cvm.umn.edu/. Many bald eagles that nest further north in eastern Canada migrate into New England for the cold winter months. Many stay the winter in New Hampshire, but even more pass through the state on their migrations south in the fall and back north in the spring.
