If you would like more information about specific these trails, or specific conditions please call the Sanctuaries Dept. at 224-9909.
Audubon House, Silk Farm Road, Concord
Audubon House is wheel chair accessible on the first floor.
Visitors will enjoy our Nature Store, Discovery Room and exhibits
in our Meeting Room. The local Chapter holds evening presentations
the third Thursday of every month that are free and open to the public.
Seacoast Science Center at Odiorne Point, Rye
The entire facility is wheel chair accessible. The Center has a
resource library, historical exhibits and a series of fresh and
salt water tanks mimicing different underwater environments.
A breathtaking view of the ocean and Isle of Shoals is easily
available along the perimeter of the building with chairs available
to relax and enjoy the view. Programs are held by the SSC and the
Seacoast Chapter of ASNH.
Paradise Point Nature Center, North Shore Road, Hebron
PPNC is a staffed summer facility that conducts day camp,
evening programs and family programs. There are also exhibits,
a nature store, library, and live animals. While a ramp exists,
it is a steep grade and some assistance may be necessary.
Volunteers are welcome.
The Loon Center, Moultonborough
The Loon Center is the new home of the Loon Preservation
Committee, located on several acres on the shores of Lake
Winnipesaukee. All public areas of the building -- the Loons
Feather gift shop, exhibit and meeting areas, educational displays
and staff offices -- are wheel chair accessible. A short (1/4 mile)
trail on hard pack dirt leads through a white pine forest to Half
Way Brook. This trail, while formally created for wheelchairs, is
difficult, but available to the hearty person.
Willard Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, Antrim
As its name states, the focal point of this beautifully remote
sanctuary is Willard Pond. ASNH owns or has easements on 95% of
the shoreline. A mobility impaired or handicapped person may drive
past the parking area, to the edge of the pond for a beautiful view
of the area. Bird activity is active and may be viewed on the west
side of the road in the shallow diverse area of wetland.
Hoyt Sanctuary, E. Madison
Hebron Marsh, Newfound Lake
While many visitors to this area stop at the Paradise Point
Nature Center, a jewel is often missed 1/2 mile west of the
Center on North Shore Road. Formally named "Ash Cottage", and
a summer residence for staff, this property is open to the public.
By parking in the lot next to the cottage, an overlook of a
spectacular marsh and the north end of the lake can be reached
by walking ~200 feet from the lot to the lake. Using binoculars
or a spotting scope a variety of wetland birds and waterfowl make
their home in amongst the wetland grasses and shrubs. They can be
seen and heard calling, building nests and foraging in pockets of
open water. Activity is best before 10:00 Am and after 6:00 PM.
Deering Wildlife Sanctuary, Deering
While the Deering Sanctuary has extensive trails through
wetland, uplands, managed and unmanaged forests, a very easy
access point is available along the relatively quiet road
overlooking x x Pond.
After turning onto x x road, drive past the first parking area. After passing a brick colonial and associated barns, there is a small parking area on the right near the outlet of the pond.
