About the Amoskeag Fishways

The Amoskeag Fishways, located on the Merrimack River in Manchester, New Hampshire, is owned by Public Service of New Hampshire and managed by the Audubon Society of New Hampshire in partnership with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The Fishways provides year-round environmental educational programs and exhibits focusing on the natural and cultural history of the Merrimack River Watershed for people of all ages. The Fishways also includes a fish ladder that enables fish such as salmon, shad, and river herring to return to their native waters to spawn. Visitors are able to explore an interactive exhibit hall, view slide presentations, and, when available, attend educational programs and special events. The Fishways location, right next to the river, makes the center a good place to observe wildlife year-round, including bald eagles and peregrines in the winter and nesting red-tailed hawks on an island across from the center in the spring. There's also a scenic view of the Amoskeag Falls just a short drive from the center. Educational programs are available for school groups (Pre-K through 12), teachers, families, and adults. Call 626-3474 for more information.

You can visit the Amoskeag Fishways at their web site, or you can find them at the Amoskeag Dam off Fletcher Street in Manchester, NH. They are open year round, and admission is free. Call for exact hours.

This and other centers sponsor programs throughout the year.
