Bruce Schwaegler |
A graduate of Duke University and the Harvard Business School, Mr. Schwaegler enjoyed a first career as a senior executive with Federated Department Stores, including service as Financial Vice President of Filenes in Boston and President of Bullocks in Los Angeles. Since moving to New Hampshire in 1986, Schwaegler has had a focus on tree farming and related wildlife habitat issues. In 1998, Bruce and his wife, Sarah, were named the 1998 NH Tree Farmers of the Year in recognition of their intensive management of wildlife habitats on their 2,900-acre tree farm.
Schwaegler has served on the boards or committees of over 30 community and non-profit organizations, including many whose missions are related to N.H. Audubon's. He is a past member of the N.H. Wetlands Council and the Board of the N.H. Timberland Owners Association, and currently serves on the N.H. Forest Advisory Board.
"I am committed to leading NH Audubon toward a strong future of service in protection of our state's wildlife and wildlife habitats," said Schwaegler. This is an urgent task, and I am excited about engaging a long list of past, present and future NH Audubon volunteers and supporters to help carry this work forward.
Schwaegler replaces David Houghton. Houghton resigned as President of N.H. Audubon based on a mutual agreement with the N.H. Audubon Board of Trustees that this action was in the best interests of both parties. While serving as Interim President, Schwaegler will take a temporary leave of absence from his term on the Board of Trustees until a national search process to select a new President has been completed.
