Common Nighthawks in New Hampshire with Rebecca Suomala

April 27, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

$12.00 – $15.00

Nighthawks are endangered in New Hampshire and declining throughout their range but we don’t know why. The dawn and dusk “peent” call of these birds was once a familiar sound in cities and towns throughout New Hampshire, where they nested on flat, pea stone gravel roofs and fed on insects attracted to city lights. NH Audubon initiated Project Nighthawk in 2007 to investigate the potential for restoring nesting nighthawks by placing simple gravel “nest patches” on flat rooftops. During this presentation, find out what we’ve learned about patches and nesting nighthawks, and see photos of nests and chicks.

This presentation is available in a hybrid format.  You are welcome to join us in-person at the Massabesic Center in Auburn, or virtually via Zoom! Please indicate your preference in the ticket options below.

This program will take place rain or shine.
